New Jersey Penalty Increase Legislation passed by Senate!

UPDATE - THIS BILL HAS BEEN SIGNED INTO LAW

On Monday March 17, 2008, the New Jersey Senate passed Senate bill No. 1304 (S1304), sponsored by State Senator John Girgenti (D-35), by a 30 to 7 margin.

This bill, among other things, raises the penalty for possession of "assault firearms" from a third-degree crime to a second-degree crime, which carries a potential 10-year prison sentence and $150,000 fine. S1304 is an ill-conceived attempt to address gang violence.  The bill is likely to have severe unintended consequences for the Garden State’s law-abiding gun owners, such as posing a risk of lengthy incarceration to otherwise law-abiding gun owners who were turned into criminals overnight in 1990 by New Jersey's vague and confusing “assault firearms” ban.

New Jersey Senate Passes One Gun A Month Bill.

Sorry for the late response on this one.  The Senate voted in favor of restricting gun purchases to one per month.  This Bill will now head to the Governor's desk for his signature before becoming law.

Remember this come election time.  Below are the Senate and Assembly votes by member.  Be sure to thank those who voted no and remember those who voted yes when elections come around.

New Jersey Senate to Vote on One Gun A Month Bill Tomorrow - 5/25/09!
From NRA-ILA

UPDATE - this Bill was passed by the Senate - more info upcoming!

Please Contact Your State Senator Today!

Under the direction of Governor Jon Corzine (D) and with little notice to the public to ensure that New Jersey sportsmen and gun owners were not prepared to defend their Second Amendment rights from gun rationing schemes; the New Jersey State Senate today added S1774  "One Gun-A-Month" to tomorrow's voting agenda.

Simply stated, this bill would prohibit an individual from purchasing more than one handgun within a 30-day period.  The state already requires an individual to first obtain a permit to purchase – a process which includes an extensive criminal background check and a minimum of 30 days to complete.  This bill, as proposed, is just another step that anti-gun legislators are trying to take to erode our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

If passed, this bill gives anti-gun extremists carte blanche to further hinder your right to purchase firearms.  Next it could be one rifle or shotgun per 30-day period or even one handgun per six months or year.

Please contact your State Senator TODAY and urge them to oppose this unwarranted and unjustified attack on our Second Amendment freedoms.  Contact information for your State Senator can be found by clicking here.

Support Deer Hunting for All Hunters - Monmouth County Tatum Park Deer Hunt!
From NJOA

UPDATE - This measure was defeated.  See the article by Bob Jordan of the Asbury Park Press for full details.

Two good reasons to come to Monmouth County on Monday night...

1 - To support the deer hunt for ALL hunters (not just county employees for Tatum Park)

2 - To prove that Ms. Doris Lin, attorney for NJARA (animal extremist group) does not represent the view of the majority.

See the rest of this article for more details.  Attend if you can!
